Souad Mohamed

Souad Mohamed (1935-) is a Lebanese singer of Egyptian descent. She holds both Lebanese and Egyptian citizenship and launched her career in Damascus.
Her Life
Souad Mohamed was born in Tallet El Khayat in Beirut, and her exact date of birth is unknown, but it is mentioned that she was born on February 2, 1935. She is of Lebanese mother and Egyptian father who emigrated from the town of Abu Tig in Assiut Governorate.
In her early years, Souad Mohamed married her discoverer, the writer and journalist Mohamed Ali Fattouh. The marriage lasted 15 years, and they had six children before they separated. She then married the Egyptian engineer Mohamed Beybars, with whom she had four children, and they later divorced. She then married a Lebanese man named Asaad, but they had no children, and they also divorced.
She underwent two serious surgeries, one on her heart and the other on her head, and recovered in good health.
Her Artistic Life
Souad Mohamed lived in Damascus, Syria, and initially began singing muwashahat (Andalusian classical music) on Damascus Radio. After that, she traveled to Aleppo, a city known as the center of music at that time, and a city of art and singing. She gained admiration and was described as having the most beautiful female voice they had ever heard. From there, Souad Mohamed became known for her beautiful voice. This voice was nurtured by the composer Mohamed Mohsen. She then traveled to Cairo, where she participated in the film “A Girl from Palestine” and sang songs for the film “The Martyr of Divine Love.” She excelled and immediately attracted attention. Composers vied to compose music for her.
Her Films
She only made two films. The first was “A Girl from Palestine,” which was the first film about the tragedy of the Palestinian cause. Then she was given the leading role in her second film, “I Am Alone,” directed by Henry Barakat, and co-starring Magda, Nour El-Demerdash, and Salah Nazmi. After that, she stopped acting and focused on singing on the radio, either as solo songs or in radio programs, and she presented many of these programs. She only contributed to cinema by providing dubbed songs for other actresses, such as her songs in the film “Rabia Al-Adawiya” in 1960, the film “Al-Shaima, the Prophet’s Sister” in 1972, and the film “Bamba Kasher.”
